Structured housing for your next chapter
Michigan's Choice Independent Living offers safe, affordable shared housing for veterans, returning citizens, and displaced adults.
Our Program Support Your Transition
Michigan's Choice Independent Living provides structured housing with clear standards. We use Mutual Respect Protocols to create a safe community where our program participants rebuild stability and move forward with confidence.
What makes our program work
Michigan's Choice Independent Living combines structured accountability with genuine community support to help our program participants rebuild stable, independent lives. Through shared residential housing, Mutual Respect Protocols, and hands-on transition support, participants gain the tools and community they need to move forward with confidence.
All residents are expected to maintain a respectful and cooperative living environment. Participation in the program requires a shared commitment to treating others with dignity, respecting personal boundaries, and contributing to a peaceful household. Residents must communicate with one another in a direct, respectful, and non-confrontational manner. Conflicts should be addressed between the individuals involved in a calm and solution-focused way. Gossip, harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behavior that negatively impacts the living environment is not acceptable. Each resident is responsible for respecting shared spaces by cleaning up after themselves, properly disposing of trash, and not leaving personal belongings in common areas. Maintaining cleanliness and order is a shared responsibility and essential to the well-being of all residents. Privacy must be respected at all times. Residents may not enter another person’s room or use their belongings without clear permission. Noise levels should be kept reasonable, especially during agreed-upon quiet hours, to ensure all residents can enjoy a comfortable living space. Guests, if permitted, must be managed responsibly. Residents are accountable for the behavior of their guests and must ensure that their presence does not disrupt others or violate house expectations. As this is an independent living program without on-site staff, residents are expected to take personal responsibility for their actions and work collaboratively to resolve issues. Failure to uphold these expectations may result in consequences in accordance with program guidelines. By residing in the program, each individual agrees to uphold this mutual respect protocol and contribute to a safe, stable, and respectful shared living environment.
